biography
KAMIJO became quite popular in the visual
kei scene as the lead singer of LAREINE, a band that had a quite
complicated story. After several lineup changes, the lineup settled in
1996 with MAYU on guitar, Emiru
on bass and Machi on drums. In 1999 they
went major with Sony Music, but shortly after the release of their most
succesful album Fierté no umi to tomo ni
kiyu フィエルテの海と共に消ゆ all members but KAMIJO
announced they wanted to leave the band.
In late 2000 KAMIJO released a full album and a single using the name
LAREINE, and eventually formed a new band called NEW SODMY in
Summer 2001.
In late 2002 NEW SODMY disbanded and KAMIJO resumed LAREINE one more
time. Former LAREINE members took part to the recording process as
secret guests, and by April 2003 both MAYU and Emiru came back as
official members. A new drummer was found in ex-RIBBON KAZUMI.
The activities of the reborn LAREINE went on steadily until 2006, when
KAZUMI announced he had to retire from the music scene due to personal
reasons and shortly after that MAYU litterally vanished in thin air.
KAMIJO and Emiru tried to keep on playing live with the help of support
members, but eventually decided to disband LAREINE. The last live took
place with HIZAKI as support guitarist on
October 31st 2006 and was followed by a memorial event on February 18th
2007.
KAMIJO had a couple of solo performances with ex-Fatima Kanoma
on Christmas 2006 and at the same time produced the theatrical rock show
Node of scherzo with the help of HIZAKI, Jasmine You
and the solo artists Kaya and Juka.
At the first event of Node of scherzo, held on March 14th 2007, he
announced that he would form a new band with HIZAKI.

trivia
» |
It seems that KAMIJO's first band was
Bijireiku
美辞麗句. However, no
information about such a band is available at the moment. |
| » |
He used to be a MALICE MIZER roadie in
early and mid-90's. Other roadies in those years were MAYU from
LAREINE and Hitomi from Moran. KAMIJO shared some memories of
his roadie experience in an interview released in Gackt's
nine*nine
boxset. |
| » |
In order to support his music career
KAMIJO used to work in pubs, restaurants and convenience stores
like Seven Eleven. |
| » |
He grew up in a musical family. His
mother is keyboard teacher, his grandfather plays violin and his
grandmother used to be a piano teacher. |
| » |
He started being interested in making
music after he left his tennis club. He had a fight with a
senior and since he was always holding his racket reverse like a
guitar he thought it would be cool to buy one and learn to play
it. |
| » |
KAMIJO first met HIZAKI in the early
2000's, as they were both working at a certain hard rock shop
located in Meguro. |
| » |
He often calls YUKI
YUKI-ani
(older brother). |
| » |
He is close friends with the owner of
the independent label UNDER CODE PRODUCTION and former
Phantasmagoria bassist KISAKI. |
| » |
He established his own independent
record label APPLAUSE RECORDS
in late 2000. Since then he has been producing several visual
kei bands, including IZABEL VAROSA,
Metis Gretel and Juka. In 2006 APPLAUSE RECORDS either
closed down or changed its name to
Sherow Artist Society. However,
KAMIJO considers Sherow Artist Society as a league of artists
and not just a normal record label. Currently he is the
executive producer of Matenrou Opera 摩天楼オペラ. |
| » |
He really loves movie soundtracks and
would like to write one in future. For this reason he composed
and arranged all the instrumental preludes of Versailles and the
soundtrack for the ASCENDEAD MASTER
short movie. |
| » |
Versailles recorded all their indies
songs at KAMIJO's own studio called
APPLAUSE RECORDS STUDIO. |
| » |
Both in LAREINE and Versailles his
lyrics are connected to each others in order to make a single
story. The main plot for Versailles is, as suggested by the
music videos, vampires. |
| » |
KAMIJO has been active as a solo
artist from 2000 to 2001 using the name LAREINE. In that period
he released a full-length album titled
SCREAM. In
addition, he sang as a solo artist at the Sherow Artist
Society Christmas 2006 events, with HIZAKI and Jasmine You as
support members. |
| » |
He has never been a professional guitarist, but he
played some guitar on his solo album
SCREAM and in
several session bands. |
| » |
He uses a sequencer to arrange piano
and keyboards parts, but would like to learn how to play piano
properly. |
| » |
His most famous phrase in his
LAREINE days was "Bonjour Honey!".
However, he has been using it less and less since he joined
Versailles. |
